Rutherford United Methodist Church - 56 W Passaic Avenue Rutherford, New Jersey
“In 1869, Methodist ministers Rev. A. Craig and E.V. King from Passiac were called to form a congregation in Rutherford Park. A charter was drawn on December 15, 1870, for the Park Methodist Episcopal Church. Initially meetings were held in the busy Union Hall; it took another 10 years - and some reorganization to construct a building across the street. The land was donated by Mary E. Ames of New York City. As was the case with other structures in a growing town, the church proved to be inadequate to house the increasing number of worshipers. A new site was found, and architect Taylor Corwall started work on the new edifice in the fall of 1895. The final dedication was on April 12, 1896.” The name was later changed to the Rutherford United Methodist Church.
